The mental illness commonly known as hoarding and its impact on building safety and fire prevention will be the subject of the keynote presentation at this year’s International Code Council annual conference.

Registration is now underway for the event, which takes place Oct. 21-31 in Richmond, Virginia. Matt Paxton, an “extreme cleaning” expert featured on the hit A&E cable TV show “Hoarders,” will talk about his experiences on the series.

The conference includes numerous educational seminars and the Building Safety & Design Expo. Public discussions on proposed revisions to the council’s building codes, some of the most widely used construction guidelines in the world, are also planned.
