Sensaphone has released the 4000, a monitoring system that officials say provides low-cost continuous monitoring of data center conditions across multiple locations. Each host unit supports up to eight environmental sensors to monitor critical conditions including temperature, humidity and power outages, which can indicate a problem with the center’s HVAC system. It also simultaneously monitors the data center environment and network devices with IP addresses, such as network links, routers, printers and servers as well as sensors to detect smoke, sound level, motion, water leaks and intrusions. When the system identifies a potential problem, it immediately sends alerts through Ethernet and telephone connections.
