The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association will present a series of three Webinars on how to construct HVAC rectangular and round duct.

The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association will present a series of three Webinars on how to construct HVAC rectangular and round duct. The series will explain how to construct the ducts so that they are compliant with SMACNA’s “HVAC Duct Construction Standards-Metal and Flexible” manual.

To sign up, visit the Education section of the SMACNA Web site atwww.smacna.org. Participants will earn $50 in savings if they sign up for all three Webinars in the series. Registration for all three is $385. One Internet computer registration fee allows unlimited participants at the same site. For each separate Webinar, registration is $145.

“Rectangular Duct External Reinforcement”  will be held on April 21 at 11 a.m. This Webinar will cover basic definitions used to properly describe rectangular duct, limits and proper application of various joints and seams, and how to use SMACNA’s standard to determine proper construction options. Construction options to be discussed will include how to select the proper gauge and the proper external reinforcement angle. This presentation will cover duct up to 120 inches by 120 inches and address positive pressure and negative pressure applications. This is the first session in a three-part series.

“Rectangular Duct Tie Rods, New Tables (TDC/TDF), and Rectangular Duct Over 120 Inches” will take place on May 5 at 11 a.m. This presentation will cover how to properly determine tie rod options for rectangular duct, positive pressure and negative pressure options, and the effects of using heavier gauges on tie rod choices.

“Round and Oval Duct, Hangers, and Casing Construction” will take place on May 19 at 11 a.m. This program will cover round and oval ducts including the basic definitions used for round and flat-oval duct, limits and proper application of various joints and seams, use of the “HVAC Duct Construction Standards-Metal and Flexible” to determine proper construction for spiral duct and longitudinal seam duct. Examples will cover determining the proper gauge and the proper reinforcement. Positive and negative pressure construction options are explained. It will also cover how to select the proper components for duct hangers. Casing construction will also be addressed. This is the final session in a three-part series.
