The Sheet Metal Workers endorsed Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid during a Nov. 17 rally at its Las Vegas Local 88 union hall.

More than 500 members, including union general President Michael J. Sullivan, were on hand to congratulate the Democratic New York senator on securing the support of the group.

“Hillary Clinton understands our issues,” Sullivan said. “She knows the importance of sound policies and programs and will deal fairly and intelligently in addressing the energy crisis, fair trade, affordable health care, funding college and technical education and training, and will protect retirement security.”

Clinton said she was honored to have the endorsement of the group.

“We will stand together to rebuild the middle class and make sure that America’s families are no longer invisible to the president of the United States,” Clinton said.

The Sheet Metal Workers will merge Jan. 1 with the United Transportation Union, which endorsed Clinton in August. The combined union will be known as the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers, and will go by the acronym SMART.
