History has long been one of my favorite subjects. I loved reading about the past and how it tied into current events. My grades were usually pretty good in history courses, too, so that was certainly a plus.
That’s why I’m excited to work on a story for this info center on the history of Carlisle HVAC, which includes Hardcast, a company that can trace its roots back to the 1950s and surprisingly, the early days of rock ‘n’ roll.
If you search online for “Boyd Bennett,” you’ll likely come across YouTube videos of Bennett’s 1955 45 rpm single, “Seventeen,” or “My Boy Flat Top,” credited to Boyd Bennett and His Rockets. I don’t want to give away the whole story, but when he wasn’t singing and writing rockabilly music, Bennett was involved in HVAC sales and sheet metal products, selling duct sealants and air-conditioning parts — a career which he continued and grew after leaving the music industry in the 1960s.
I’m looking forward to doing more research on how Bennett went from rockabilly to HVAC. I’d also love to talk to longtime Hardcast and Carlisle customers. If you have any stories to tell, contact me or post a comment below. Be sure to include your email.
