Soon after St. John’s Mercy Regional Medical Center was destroyed by a massive tornado May 22, 2011, plans were launched for its replacement. Mercy, the sixth largest Catholic health care system in the U.S., looked to fast-track the construction of a new hospital to continue serving the community.
