McElroy Metal says its new product is a quick and efficient way to install standing-seam metal roof panels directly over asphalt shingles, eliminating the need to tear off the old roof. It uses the company’s 138T symmetrical standing-seam panel and a patent-pending clip. The clip fixes the problem of alignment and abrasion, since it is long enough to sit on two shingles. It uses three-quarter-inch deep corrugated metal under the panels at the ridge, hip and headwall locations to provide airflow and a surface to attach the closure, officials say.
