SMACNA gives legislative service award
A staff member with the Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Philadelphia and Vicinity has received a legislative award.
John Connolly, a safety professional with the chapter, received the Special Legislative Service Award April 30 at a dinner in Washington, D.C.
“John is one of our finest and most committed chapter activists,” said Karen Fox, chairwoman of the Sheet Metal and Air-Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s legislative and political action committees. “He has shown what a major difference one person can make by working hard and becoming a highly informed spokesperson for SMACNA’s interests on the policy, legislative, and political fronts.
“John has developed expertise in industry issues and is a dedicated advocate on the national level,” she said. “John is a leader — always the first to heed the call to make a phone call or send a letter. The Philadelphia area’s senators and representatives know where SMACNA stands on an issue because John takes action.”
Also receiving an award was Albert A. Sapio, president of Arlan Damper Co. in Long Island, N.Y.
Sapio took home the association’s 2014 Distinguished Legislative Service Award.
“Al has been a widely recognized and engaging legislative force since his earliest days representing the SMACNA Long Island Chapter and the association during visits with his members of Congress,” Fox said. “Al has an outstanding record as a contractor and lobbyist at every level — locally, regionally and nationally. Without question, his record of achievement has benefitted all of us.”
