Albany, N.Y.-based Colonial Plumbing and Heating Supply Inc. has joined the Johnstone Supply cooperative.
As an independent member of the Johnstone organization, Colonial will retain full ownership and management of its stores while being able to access business resources from Johnstone, including expanded product offerings and purchasing leverage, enhanced marketing materials, and operational and logistical support.
Johnstone reports that Colonial is joining the cooperative as a way to provide wider heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration parts and equipment product offerings to the Albany region and expanded services for its customers.
Colonial business initiatives stemming from the agreement include major remodeling at its Glens Falls, N.Y., and Oneonta, N.Y., operations, as well as significant capital expenditures in a new Johnstone Supply facility adjoining its Albany headquarters.
Prior to joining the Johnstone cooperative, Colonial had been in business for over 60 years and currently employs more than 30 staff among its three stores.
“We are extremely excited about joining the Johnstone family of independent businesses,” said Colonial President Mark Marozzi. “The Johnstone business model gives us the tools we need to grow and compete in the rapidly changing wholesale distribution market. The cooperative’s resources will allow us to supply a wider array of products than ever, and enable us to deliver them faster. Plus, it shares our commitment to outstanding customer service.”
