BNP Media, parent company of Snips magazine, has purchased the professional services division of Overland Park, Kan.-based Ascend Media. Terms were not disclosed.

The move adds food, beverage, packaging and gambling-related magazines, conferences, trade shows and Web sites to BNP Media’s existing portfolio, which will now include more than 60 magazines, 40 events and 75 Web sites.

“All of the titles have been well managed by an excellent staff that has integrated print advertising, events and online media,” said Taggart Henderson, co-CEO of Troy, Mich.-based BNP Media. “We now have robust products for any customer looking to reach each and every corner of the food, beverage, packaging and gaming markets.”

BNP’s market-research division, Clear Seas, will also be entering these industries, officials added.
“Clear Seas will present unparalleled, custom market research in the food, beverage, packaging and gaming industries via our combination of online communities, industry knowledge and superior analysis,” said Mitchell Henderson, co-CEO of BNP Media.

The additional publications compliment existing BNP magazines, Taggart Henderson added.
“Combined with our current offering of category industry-leading magazines, Prepared Foods and Food Engineering, along with Packaging Strategies, a conference, newsletter and multi-client report business, we have improved upon our leadership position in the dynamic and growing food and packaging markets,” he said. “We are also very excited about acquiring a platform in the high-growth, worldwide gaming industry.”
The gaming group, based in Las Vegas, is comprised of two magazines and sponsors trade shows and events.

The food and beverage group is based in Deerfield, Ill.

Officials with Ascend Media, which in addition to trade magazines and shows also maintain databases for the health care industry, said BNP would be a good fit for its former publications and operations.

“We’ve been extremely impressed with the way the professional services division team has evolved and grown into a diversified B-to-B media business,” said Ascend Media President and CEO Cam Bishop. “As part of BNP Media, it will have an even more compelling strategic fit that will allow the team and their brands to build on this year’s impressive growth rate.”
