The Mechanical Service Contractors of America announced five more contractors to qualify for the association’s Star status. MSCA Star is a qualifications program that recognizes contractors who meet or exceed operating and training standards set by MSCA.

The five new MSCA Star members are: Barr Engineering Inc. in Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; Bassett Mechanical in Kaukauna, Wis.; Control Services Inc. in Omaha, Neb.; Peterson Service Co. Inc. in Medford, N.J. and United Air Conditioning Service Inc. in Baldwin Park, Calif.

According to the MSCA, to become a Star contractor, companies must complete a detailed application covering a wide range of criteria, including maintaining a superior safety record, offering outstanding customer service, and focusing on continuing education and training for all employees.

In addition, at least 25 percent of the contractor’s technicians must be Star certified by the United Association.

A total of 74 companies have reached MSCA Star status since the program was introduced in 2004. The program is independently verified by the National Inspection, Testing and Certification Corporation.

“The MSCA Star qualification assures building owners and managers that the contractor has passed an extensive, independently-verified screening of its core competencies, including a skilled workforce and outstanding customer service,” said Wayne Turchetta, chairman of MSCA’s board of managers and vice president of HMC Service Co. in Louisville, Ky.
