Grainger announced it would expand its operations by opening a new 24,000-square-foot branch in Auburn Hills, Mich.
In addition to the new facility in Auburn Hills, Grainger plans to open a new location in the western Detroit suburbs within a year and relocate its Troy, Mich., facility to a larger location nearby. The company is also increasing its local inventory and adding new jobs to support the company's increased operations.
As a result of these changes, Grainger says it will be better positioned to offer customers more products in stock and with same-day delivery.
"Grainger has been serving businesses in the Detroit area for 70 years and we saw an opportunity to invest in our local operations and better serve customers," said Paul Dowd, Grainger district branch manager. "For customers such as contractors, time is money and it's our job to get them the products they need quickly. Our local customers wanted more locations and more products closer to them and we listened."
According to Grainger, its changes in the Detroit area are part of the company's national market expansion program designed to make purchasing facilities maintenance products faster and easier for business owners in major metropolitan areas. The company has already completed changes in Atlanta, Denver and Seattle, and is now enhancing its presence in markets such as Houston, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Baltimore, south Florida and Southern California.
