Once again, there are two competing certification programs for hvac technicians. The Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) announced it has redesigned and reinstated the National Technician Certification (NTC) program.

The move was made "upon the request of past customers who were not satisfied with the alternative programs being offered" and that this "re-establishes the society as the leading education and training association for hvacr professionals."

Originally conceived in 1983, the NTC program has certified more than 70,000 techs. The testing programs, according to RSES, have been revised and updated and are being offered in the fields of ac, refrigeration, heating and heat pumps at both the installer and service levels.

The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) also offers a tech certification program, called North American Technician Excellence (NATE). At one time, ACCA and RSES together supported a single test program, known as ACE, for Air Conditioning Excellence.
