Rodgers takes over helm at SMACNA
President-elect is Jack Desmond, Cox Engineering Co., Canton, Mass. Mark Watson, Climate Engineers Inc., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is secretary-treasurer.
Kevin Harpring was elected vice president. He is with Harpring Inc., Louisville, Ky.
Rodgers, 48, a second generation sheet metal and hvac contractor, is no stranger to the industry. He says he grew up seeing “a set of blueprints rolled out on the kitchen table and a hard hat, tape measure and clipboard” on the front seat of his father’s car.
J.B. Rodgers Mechanical Contractors was founded by Ron’s father in Arizona in 1948. By the time Ron was a teen-ager, he was cleaning his father’s sheet metal shop and scrapping out old air-conditioners. After graduating from high school, Rodgers entered a sheet metal apprenticeship program and says he showed little interest in going to college. He turned to studying mechanical engineering at Arizona State University, switching over to construction management, also finishing a sheet metal apprenticeship around the same time.
After he began working as a construction manager with J.B. Rodgers, the company merged with Kinetics Group of Santa Clara, Calif., a worldwide company focusing on the semiconductor and biopharmaceutical industries. Rodgers now serves as the company’s vice president of human resources and organizational development.
Rodgers will officially be sworn in as SMACNA president during this month’s convention.
