The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute have started a new section representing manufacturers of ductless air-conditioning and heat pump units.

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute has formed a new product section that will represent unitary ductless equipment. The section was approved Nov. 14 by the ARI board of directors.

"This is an exciting opportunity to bring together manufactures of ductless equipment to ensure that approved standards are maintained and that a dialogue among industry leaders is established," said Henry Hwong, ARI's director of product sections.

Equipment covered by the new products section includes ductless-split air conditioner and heat pump systems with cooling and heating capacities for outdoor units from 5,000 Btu per hour to 300,000 Btuh and indoor units from 5,000 Btuh to 60,000 Btuh.

"ARI's reputation in establishing industry standards and upholding the industry's integrity is well-known. The commitment from companies joining the newly established ARI product section further demonstrates these commitments," said Carrier Corp.'s Thomas White. White also serves as chairman of the new section.

Other members of the product section include: Daikin Industries Ltd., Enviromaster International, Eubank Manufacturing Enterprises Inc., Friedrich Air Conditioning Co., Fujitsu General America, Goodman Manufacturing Corp., LG Electronics USA Inc., Lennox International Inc., Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Sanyo Fisher USA Corp. and the Trane Co.
