ATLANTA - Improving energy efficiency while minimizing its impact on the environment are the goals of an agreement signed by ASHRAE and the U.S. Department of Energy.

Officials from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers and the Energy Department will work together to support the widespread use of renewable energy sources and to minimize the impact of energy use on the environment.

"ASHRAE energy standards have guided the efficient use of energy resources in buildings for more than 20 years," said ASHRAE President Richard Rooley. "Partnering with the Department of Energy will allow us to improve on our efforts in achieving substantial energy savings without sacrificing comfort, air quality or productivity."
