As we approach Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season, it made me remember that the HVAC industry is a pretty charitable bunch.

From the annual donation the Sheet Metal and Air-Conditioning Contractors’ National Association gives to a charity in its convention host city, to the recent efforts by sheet metal products companies like Duro Dyne Corp. to raise money to fight breast cancer, this is an industry that lives to give back.

That occurred to me as I was looking over the profile I wrote on Joseph Groh and the foundation he founded that bears his name. Groh was critically injured in a biking accident in 2008 that took away his ability to walk but not his spirit.

Today, the Joseph Groh Foundation raises money for people with mobility injuries and musculoskeletal diseases. Unlike other similar groups, it has a special focus on those who have backgrounds in HVAC construction or related industries.

Is your company involved in any charity efforts?
