When January comes along, I know it is time to travel. The AHR Expo is held every year, usually at the end of January. Sometimes the event will fall in the beginning of February, but January is usually expo month.

This year, I and the rest of the Snips team will be heading to Dallas for three busy days of walking the trade show floor and sitting in on educational sessions. This year’s expo, Jan. 28-30, will be jammed packed with booths to visit and meetings to attend. The yearly event is not just a time to visit our advertisers, but to stay connected with where the sheet metal and HVAC industry is heading.

I’ve been covering the industry for more than 10 years, and a lot has changed. I’ve seen products become more and more energy efficient. I’ve seen the green and sustainability market skyrocket. Software has increasingly become a big player in the way HVAC and sheet metal companies do business. And then there is building information modeling. BIM has exploded over the last decade, and the products that come with it have changed the tradeshow floor at the expo. In fact, this year’s AHR Expo will have a software center with more than 40 vendors demonstrating their products.

I’ve only been attending the AHR Expo for the past 12 years. I can only imagine how the expo has changed for veterans in the industry. How have you seen the industry change if you have been attending for the past 25 or 30 years? What about those who have been bending sheet metal for half a century? I’m sure it is very different. And different is good!

Besides seeing what is new, we also want to see our readers. BNP Media, our parent company, will be at booth 2020 at the convention center. Come by and say hello to us. If we aren’t there, just leave a message with someone and we will try to get back to you. We love meeting as many people as we can. Hope to see you in Dallas!
