I recently attended the Good Jobs, Green Jobs conference in Detroit. The two-day meeting promoting careers in the new, sustainable economy was one of several held across the country.
A couple of the locals with the Sheet Metal Workers union, along with the Detroit chapter of the Sheet Metal and Air-Conditioning Contractors’ National Association, sponsored a session on the “green” careers the HVAC industry had to offer.
The session was aimed at people who didn’t know much about HVAC or sheet metal, and to that end, I think they did a pretty good job. Now, in a region as hard hit by job losses as southeastern Michigan, all they need is some construction work.
Our coverage of the May 10-11 event will be in July’s Snips. In the meanwhile, listen to our podcast interview with some of the session’s speakers.
