Snips is in Toronto this week, attending CMX, Canada's biennial HVAC, plumbing and HVAC trade show.

I have been struck by just how environmentally aware Toronto is. In all of the hotels I've stayed at when visiting here, recycling bins have been included in the rooms. And recycling bins are everywhere at the city's convention center. That's something I haven't seen in many places. Even Chicago, which under Mayor Richard Daley has made green building a priority, recycling bins aren't always easy to find.

So it didn't surprise me that seminars on energy efficiency and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design have been among the show's most popular. And Saturday night, many of the city's hotels and office buildings will dim or turn off the lights to promote saving energy. That's quite a statement.
