Residents in the areas of Delano, Shafter, Wasco and McFarland, California, now have an opportunity to earn an HVAC Certificate and Associate of Science degree as part of a new HVAC program at Bakersfield College. As reported by The Bakersfield Californian, the program is part of the college’s initiative to equip its surrounding communities with workforce skills:

“Investing in our students and rural communities is an investment in our future,” said Assembly Member (Rudy) Salas. “Workforce development programs like the HVAC program in Delano will prepare students with the skills they need to get into good, high-paying jobs and to start their own businesses. I applaud President (Sonya) Christian and (Bakersfield College) for their continued commitment to our rural communities and empowering students to lead successful careers.”

Last summer, California Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. included $1 million in the 2018-2019 state budget to fund career technical education programs at Bakersfield College and its Rural Initiatives programs. Funding for the program was secured by assemblyman Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield).
