A U.S. Congress member has recognized the International Code Council’s efforts in promoting structure safety.

Rep. Peter Welsch (D-Vt.) remarked on council’s efforts in creating and sustaining Building Safety Month in a May 7 speech on the floor of the U.S. House.

“Building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, design professionals, laborers and others in the construction industry work year-round to ensure the safe construction and maintenance of buildings,” Welch said. “It is through their efforts that our nation continues to address critical safety issues in the built environment that affect our citizens in both everyday life and in times of natural disaster.”

The 38th annual Building Safety Month runs through May 31.
