As the world marks Earth Day 2018 this Sunday, a group that promotes metal roofing is pointing out that metal is one of the most sustainable choices homeowners can make.

Metal roofing can last up to 50 years or more and is fully recyclable, officials with the Metal Roofing Alliance point out. The MRA represents the metal roofing industry in the U.S. and Canada. It can also save energy, thanks to coatings that keep metal roofs cooler than comparable dark asphalt roofs.

“North American homeowners are discovering what other parts of the world have long known,” said Renee Ramey, executive director of the Metal Roofing Alliance. “Choose extremely durable and long-lasting material that will better protect your home while lessening the impact on the Earth really does come down to making the right construction and renovation decisions.”
