Thybar Corp.’s patented Snow Dam helps prevent avalanches from snow or ice buildup on metal roofs. The Addison, Illinois-based company’s patented roof product retains up to 2,000 pounds of snow or ice and permits water from melted snow to safely run off roofs. The aluminum guard has pre-punched holes that fasten to the standing-seam metal roof panel, enabling the panels to expand and contract depending on the outdoor temperature. Tape mastic is used between the Snow Dam’s base and the standing seam to ensure a watertight seal. Units can be fitted for any standing seam configuration and panel width, and can be painted to match roof-panel color.
