ASHRAE has announced the 33 students who will be receiving scholarships from the society for the 2017-18 academic year. The scholarships total $164,000.

“The ASHRAE society scholarship program was launched to both encourage and reward students who pursue STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education and demonstrate active engagement in innovative research, which may lead us to a better world,” said Bjarne Olesen, ASHRAE’s 2017-18 president. “We are eager to support the next generation of engineers as they shape our future.”

The students are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in engineering or technology that lead to careers in the HVAC and refrigeration industry.

The five recipients of $10,000 scholarships are Elena Gowdy, who is studying architectural engineering at Pennsylvania State University; Sarah Drummey, who is studying architectural engineering at the University of Nebraska; Claire Feind, who is studying mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University; Mark Jirak, who is studying mechanical engineering at Minnesota State University; and Karan Kedia, who is studying mechanical engineering at Purdue University.
