Ohio resident wins Lennox energy-savings contest
Penny Furda of Garrettsville, Ohio, won $10,000 in HVAC products and prizes for her “No Tech Thursdays” entry in Lennox Industries’ Energy Savings Superstar Contest.
The contest challenged consumers to find simple and creative ways to save money on their energy bills during summer. Furda’s idea of putting away all tech devices — computers, cellphones and television — allowed her family to enjoy the summer daylight and take a break from screen-time distractions.
“The recent Lennox Home Energy Report Card survey indicated that 51 percent of homeowners gave themselves a B (grade) in energy efficiency and 26 percent of homeowners ranked themselves as average with a C, indicating there is room for improvement when it comes to energy savings,” said Jennifer Franz, an energy-efficiency expert at Lennox. “This year, we received hundreds of innovative, creative submissions; however, Penny Furda suggested a reliable tip that can be easily implemented in any household wanting to save money and energy, and create an opportunity for family time.”
To qualify for the contest, entrants had to describe their energy-saving tip in 1,000 characters or less and include a photo demonstrating the concept. As the grand-prize winner, Furda received $10,000 in Lennox HVAC and indoor air quality equipment, a one-year supply of ice cream and four tickets to a water park near her home.
