Green HVAC developer receives award
Sustainable real estate developer Scott Mazo received the Center of Excellence award from Semco LLC in October at the 2016 Greenbuild conference in Los Angeles.
The award recognizes buildings with sustainable and energy cost-reducing green design.
Mazo is the founder and managing partner of Philadelphia-based University Place Associates LLC, which developed the 98,000-square-foot 2.0 University Place in Philadelphia’s University City green building corridor.
“Scott Mazo brings inspirational and visionary building ideas to the marketplace that are already increasing property value and job opportunities in west Philadelphia’s Platinum Corridor area, while also reducing the city’s utility impact and carbon footprint,” said Thomas Rice, sales director at Semco.
The five-story, multi-tenant sustainable office building is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design platinum-level project that uses Semco’s chilled beams and dedicated outdoor air dehumidifiers with energy recovery wheels, plus high-efficiency boilers and chillers. The building is saving up to 62 percent more energy with its green HVAC systems than conventional HVAC construction methods, according to energy modeling performed by the project’s sustainability consultant Sheward Partnership LLC.
The energy modeling also showed the building surpasses ASHRAE standard 90.1 requirements by 44 percent, officials said.
