The National Association of Home Builders is celebrating the contributions women make to construction with Professional Women in Building Week.

The event, which runs through Friday, features events designed to encourage more females to enter the industry.

"NAHB Professional Women in Building Week provides a platform for our industry to recognize and honor the important role women play in the residential construction industry," said Cindy Cepko, chairwoman of the NAHB’s PWB Council and co-owner of Granite Homes Inc. in Paupack, Pennsylvania. "Women have long been in this field, but now we want to put a spotlight on them and highlight their contributions."

Scheduled activities include local ceremonies, scholarship fundraisers and school visits. "We also want to emphasize to school-aged girls and women who aren't currently in the industry that the home building industry can be a great career choice with many different options to choose from," said Cepko. "Whether it's an architect, a remodeler, a sales agent, a builder or so on, there truly is something for everyone in this field."
