Ohio-based Eastern Sheet Metal has had its spiral duct sheet metal products approved by the Air Movement and Control Association.

Eastern Sheet Metal said its spiral duct has been AMCA approved for air leakage ratings since 2010. A 10-foot sample of the 24-inch diameter, 22-gauge duct underwent a spiral leakage test using the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers’ instructions and a “bubble” test to ensure end caps did not leak.

“Eastern Sheet Metal is one of a select few spiral manufacturers that offer AMCA-certified spiral duct,” says Patrick Brooks, Eastern Sheet Metal General Manager. “ASHRAE (standard) 90.1 clearly states that spiral seams do not have to be sealed, and we have the certification to prove it.”

The re-certification is good through January 2019, officials said.
