The spring issue of Lincoln Electric’s Arc magazine will feature an interview with “Parks and Recreation” star Nick Offerman.

Offerman is a hobbyist who enjoys welding and woodworking, said Craig Coffey, Arc’s publisher and Lincoln Electric’s marketing communications manager.

“In his book Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America's Gutsiest Troublemakers, Offerman advocates for changing the way people think of the trades – including welding – or risk becoming a country that doesn’t know how to make and fix things anymore,” Coffey said. “That sentiment is one that we continually address in the pages of ARC magazine.”

Offerman points out that he’s not very good, but enjoys trying to weld.

. “I've learned to weld a few times … I've never done it on my own, and I've never done it for anything but utility,” Offerman said. “I've fixed some tables. I fixed a bunch of stuff with my uncles when I was a kid. I tried to make a nice piece that they would find pleasing. They said, ‘Man, you might want to think about going to college.’

“I am an ardent believer in the value of the trades and educating our citizenry in tool skills, so anytime I can help bring attention to the topic, I tend to jump to it.”
