California HVAC sales company celebrates 40th birthday
In 1975, Gregory W. Gill started making HVAC sales calls from his kitchen table.
An HVAC construction system design engineer, he visited neighbors to see if they were interested in learning about new equipment.
With the help of his family, the company, known as Action Air, grew. Today, it has 70 employees, has won four awards from the San Diego Better Business Bureau and covers all of San Diego and much of Riverside, California.
2015 marked Action Air’s 40th anniversary. In the past three years, sales have increased 20 percent annually, officials said, and they have plans for even greater growth. Company President Brian Amodio, a former chief financial officer with fast-food burger chain Johnny Rockets, has a 10-year plan to take the company higher.
“We are planning on doubling the business by 2020,” he said. “No easy feat for a 40-year-old business, but thankfully, every one of our amazing team members believes in the goal, and we are on track for 2020.”
Amodio said he believes the HVAC sales goal is within reach.
“We are currently over 35 percent our annual growth goals for the past four years,” he said, “which is an indication that there is room to grow without increasing overhead. We’ve expanded our service department, improved management training and found new ways to help our current customer network.”
Unlike some companies serving the HVAC market, Action Air has a stable employee base. More than half of its office workers have been with the San Marcos, California-based company a decade or more.
“Our customers trust us to offer to them the best solutions available. That’s why our service experts treat our customers like family, taking the time to educate them on all the affordable options we provide,” said Diane De Los Reyes, Action Air’s office manager.
