Randy Robinson holds a “light out” picnic-style dinner in the dark with her family every week.

That energy-saving idea was good enough for the Pierson, Fla., resident to be named an “energy savings superstar” by Lennox Industries.

As winner of the contest run on the company’s Facebook page, she will receive $10,000 in high-efficiency HVAC market equipment from Lennox, a year’s supply of ice cream and four tickets to a water park near her home.

In her entry, Robinson said she came up with the idea as a way to have fun while saving energy by turning off the lights and air conditioning and opening up her home’s windows.

“Lennox not only received more entries than ever before during the 2014 Energy Saving Superstar Contest, but the most innovative entries this year as well,” said Bobby DiFulgentiz, an energy-efficiency expert at Lennox. “With her unique indoor picnic tip, Robinson was able to show that saving energy doesn’t have to be boring or difficult. Since Lennox is a recognized leader in energy-efficient heating, cooling and indoor air quality products, the Robinson family can be confident they’re receiving products that will maximize energy savings while also keeping them cool during the long, hot Florida summers for years to come.”
