PHCC will be among those working to shape the new rules governing the efficiency of residential HVAC equipment.
The Energy Department has picked Chuck White, the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors’ vice president of technical and code services, to take part in writing the regulations.
The original rules governing the sale and installation of residential furnaces were thrown out after several groups, including the Heating, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Distributors International, challenged them in federal court.
Under the lawsuit’s settlement, the government has agreed to closer consultations with the industry as it rewrites the rules.
“As the only contractor in this group, Chuck will bring the practical concerns of the installing contractors — the front-line players — to the table, in an effort to craft a program that saves energy in an economically feasible manner,” said PHCC Executive Vice President Gerry Kennedy. “PHCC is thrilled to have a representative involved in shaping the outcome of the proposed standards.”
