HVAC construction software maker Autodesk has released a layout application for use on Apple devices.

The Autodesk BIM 360 Layout app uses Autodesk’s BIM 360 cloud services to allow mechanical, sheet metal works, ductwork fabrication, electrical and plumbing contractors to connect building information modeling with the construction process.

The app controls the LN-100 robotic instrument made by Topcon Corp. via Wi-Fi. Users are guided to physical locations based on points created in the 3-D model represented in the BIM 360 Layout app.

Autodesk BIM 360 Layout helps improve HVAC construction workers’ field accuracy and productivity, ensures designs are more accurate makes construction projects go quicker, company officials say.

“As we expand our mobile and cloud portfolio for construction, we are creating new, more efficient ways of working for construction teams,” said Jim Lynch, vice president of Autodesk’s building and collaboration products division. “With tools like BIM 360 Layout, we are helping our customers bring constructability to life by managing data across multiple platforms and formats and by helping to streamline the touch points that allow for higher levels of project collaboration, increased productivity with fewer errors.”
