A short-term fix for the federal highway trust fund is a good start, but more must be done, the BlueGreen Alliance says.

The Senate passed its version of an emergency funding bill July 29. The House has already passed its bill. More must be done, said BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director Kim Glas.

“Our economy depends on transportation infrastructure that works, but you wouldn’t know that because Congress has repeatedly put a long-term, fully funded transportation bill on the back burner,” Glas said. “That decision could sacrifice future jobs and quality of life in communities around the country. It’s time for Congress to work together to pass this short-term fix then pass a long-term, fully funded transportation bill that will repair and modernize our infrastructure to support a prosperous 21st century economy.”

The BlueGreen Alliance is a group made up of unions and environmental groups. Its members include the Sheet Metal Workers union, whose members do sheet metal forming.
