The Heating, Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International is urging HVAC market members to take part in Thermostat Recycling Corp.’s 2014 Big Man on Planet contest.

Distributors are asked to make their HVAC sales businesses collection points for used mercury-containing thermostats. The contest will recognize those businesses that collect the most thermostats, broken down by size. The contest runs through Oct. 31. Awards will be handed out during HARDI’s December conference in San Antonio.

Association members must go to this website by May 31 to participate and receive free promotional materials from TRC.

“This competition encourages active participation in TRC’s program, both for those distributors already collecting and those who may be interested in participating for the first time,” said Mark Tibbetts, executive director at Thermostat Recycling Corp. “The BMOP Award is a great opportunity for HARDI members to be recognized for their efforts in recycling mercury thermostats and protecting the environment.”
