The Associated Builders and Contractors were among the construction groups and companies signing a Feb. 10 pledge to hire 150,000 U.S. veterans within five years.
The commitment was made during a symposium on veterans’ employment hosted by the Labor Department. It was announced by first lady Michelle Obama and Labor Secretary Thomas Perez.
“ABC believes in supporting our troops by providing them with the employment opportunities available in the construction industry,” said ABC 2014 National Chairman Dan Brodbeck.
He is the president and CEO of Compass Partners LLC.
“With a projected nationwide shortage of nearly two million workers, ABC is committed to filling this skills gap, starting with our veterans,” Brodbeck said.
Many experts predict the construction industry will create 1.6 million by 2022 while expected widespread retirements could create a skilled labor shortage.
