Lindab Inc. hosted a number of students and groups Oct. 4 at its Portsmouth, Va., facilities as part of Manufacturing Day.
Career counselors and representatives from job-placement firms were on hand to hear Lindab officials talk about the opportunities in the HVAC industry. Ryan Johnson, the spiral duct and ventilation company’s vice president, discussed skills, the industry’s aging workforce and myths of a manufacturing career.
Attendees from Norfolk (Va.) Public Schools, Paul D. Camp Community College, Tidewater Community College, Tidewater Tech, Virginia Employment Commission, Virginia Job Corps and the Youth Career Center went on a factory tour and had a chance to meet Lindab employees.
“I think it’s a treat when folks are invited in for a behind the scenes look,” Johnson said. “We have a diverse workforce and I felt our guests were excited to see how components are made.”
