Thermostat Recycling Corp. is teaming up wholesaler group HARDI for a promotion to encourage the proper disposal of mercury-containing thermostats.

From May 15 to Oct. 31, the recycling company and the Heating Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Distributors International are holding the Big Man on Plant competition to see which members can collect the most thermostats.

The winner will be announced during HARDI’s annual convention in December.

“The BMOP competition taps into the hardworking and competitive nature of HARDI members to encourage the recovery of more mercury thermostats nationwide,” said Mark Tibbetts, executive director of the recycling group.  Winners of this award will be distinguished from their competitors for being publicly recognized for their commitment to protecting the environment.”
