More than $75,000 in cash donations has been raised by Johnstone companies for the nonprofit Operation Homefront.

Operation Homefront provides military families with emergency assistance and financial aid. During the past year, the Johnstone cooperative created and hosted donation drives and charity events at many of its more than 370 stores nationwide. In addition to cash, thousands of unwrapped gifts were donated during the 2012 holiday season at Johnstone store locations in support of Operation Homefront’s annual holiday toy campaign.

“Our members and store staff are deeply connected to their local communities and customers,” said Johanna Glode, Johnstone vice president of organizational development. “That makes it especially heartwarming that we’ve seen such an inspiring and generous response from our customers and the extended Johnstone cooperative family this year in support of America’s military families through Operation Homefront.”

Johnstone officials said one of the most successful events was hosted by the Tigard, Ore., store in July. The company donated $17,000 to Operation Homefront — almost double its goal.
