The study also found that almost 25 percent of the industry will be retiring in the next five years.
Fluke’s workforce study was conducted in July 2012 and surveyed the views of more than 1,600 test-tool users, educators, trainees and hiring managers to determine current workforce trends related to test and measurement skills.
The company asked for their views as to what job opportunities exist in the current market, what training and experience is needed to succeed in those jobs, and how new hires are educated.
According to Fluke officials, with workers retiring and with 85 percent of employers reporting a difficulty in finding qualified new hires, a severe hiring shortage is possible.
