As part of the Consumers Energy Saving Solutions program, trained advisers will perform energy audits and technicians will install compact florescent light bulbs as well as bathroom and kitchen faucet aerators in multifamily dwellings.

Jackson, Mich.-based utility company Consumers Energy is offering owners of apartments and condominiums free installation of energy-efficient products and evaluation of HVAC and lighting systems in common areas.

As part of the Consumers Energy Saving Solutions program, trained advisers will perform energy audits and technicians will install compact florescent light bulbs as well as bathroom and kitchen faucet aerators.

Rebates available through the utility for upgrades include $1.50 per light bulb, $18 per furnace tuneup and $75 for each water heater replaced.

“We’re inviting multifamily property owners to make important-and valuable-energy upgrades,” said Sandy Wymer, energy-efficiency programs manager for Consumers Energy. “Energy cost savings are just one benefit of improving the energy efficiency of multifamily properties. Rebates help defray the cost of upgrades for multifamily property owners, and also offer the potential to increase property values, reduce tenants’ costs, and improve the environment.”
