Families from North
Carolina and Kansas
were chosen as the winners of a home comfort makeover worth $15,000 from
American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning.
Marina
Shelest of Waxhaw, N.C., and her family received a new heating and cooling
system, including an American Standard AccuClean whole-home air filtration
system, from Dan King’s One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating in Charlotte,
N.C.
Laura Lawson of Shawnee, Kan., received a new heating
and cooling system from McIntosh Heating & Cooling of Independence, Mo.,
with support from authorized distributor O’Connor Co.
The
Shelest family’s old air-conditioning unit was replaced with a new, more
energy-efficient model and an AccuClean filtration system, which removes
bacteria and viruses that might otherwise be in the home’s filtered
air.
As a part of her prize package and overall home comfort
system, Lawson also received an AccuClean unit, which Lawson said would
hopefully help relieve her son’s asthma symptoms.
According
to American Standard, the AccuClean system removes up to 99.98 percent of
allergens and airborne particles from indoor filtered air.
The
online giveaway was a part of a word-of-mouth campaign conducted by American
Standard that targeted mothers in the Charlotte and Kansas City areas. Moms
were invited to visit special Web sites to learn more about combating asthma
and allergies, flu prevention and other topics.
The sites
also provided home comfort tips from the host of public television program
“Hannah, Help Me!” and American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning
spokeswoman Hannah Keeley, and provided an online chat room for local moms to
share and discuss their own home comfort solutions.
Manufacturer
representatives said the giveaway was designed to help area families make their
homes cleaner and more comfortable.
Shelest and Lawson were
each selected at random to receive the grand prizes, each valued at $15,000
each, including installation and warranties.
