A contractor will tell IRS officials why a proposed tax is a bad idea April 16.

A Mechanical Contractors Association of America board member is scheduled to speak at an IRS hearing on a proposed tax that could affect many contractors.

Adam Snavely of Poole & Kent Corp. Inc. in Baltimore will represent the MCAA and the Quality Construction Alliance at the hearing on the Internal Revenue Service's 3 percent withholding tax scheduled to go into effect in 2012.

The groups are urging the IRS to limit the tax to amounts payable only to the prime contractor.
