A look at the boiler-heated patio of the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah. The snowmelt system project and installing contractor Ken Tingey of Tingey Plumbing & Heating in Murray, Utah, were selected as winners in Lochinvar Corp.’s VIP Contractor Showcase.

A Utah contractor is the grand-prize winner of Lochinvar Corp.’s VIP Contractor Showcase.

Ken Tingey of Tingey Plumbing & Heating in Murray, Utah, was recognized for his “impressive” installation of a Knight Heating Boiler at the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah.

In August 2007, Tingey built a snowmelt addition to the Canyons. The 14-year-old structure is heated by two 250,000 Btu-per-hour Lochinvar units directly vented to the rear walls and the 1.8 million Btu-rated Copper-Fin II boiler, also from Lochinvar.

A patio, fire pit, and hot tub and cooking station were planned, so owners wanted to add 1,800 square feet to their existing snowmelt system.

Four Knight KBN500 boilers were used, using the existing wall for direct venting and combustion air.

Tingey completed the installation with the help of son Derek.

Officials say the installation went perfectly and fuel savings of up to 40 percent are expected.

Tingey was given a $250 gift certificate, good at Bass Pro Shops or Cabela’s, and a Knight WBN080 as his prizes.

“We take great pride in our work and strive for functionality, serviceability and a professional appearance in every installation,” Ken Tingey said.  “With our high regard for Lochinvar and the Knight Boiler, we could not be more thrilled to receive this honor.”

The other VIP finalists, who received $250 gift cards, were:

• Joe DiBacco of Comfort Zone Heating & Cooling Inc in North Billerica, Mass.

• Paul Rohrs of Biggerstaff Radiant Solutions in Lincoln, Neb.

• Gary Harper of Excel Mechanical Co. in Des Moines, Iowa

• Douglass Reammell of Three Peaks Plumbing in Tetonia, Idaho

• David Young of R&H Mechanical in Eagle, Colo.

“We at Lochinvar are very impressed with each of the contractors who entered the VIP Contractor Showcase and the quality of each installation made it difficult to choose the winners,” said Lochinvar President Bill Vallett.  “Congratulations to Ken Tingey and the five finalists for their outstanding work.”
