The engineering society will soon offer a certification test for commissioning.
ASHRAE will soon be offering certification for those
involved in building commissioning - even if they don’t have a background in
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and
Air-Conditioning Engineers new certificate, commissioning process management professional, will
be introduced at the society’s annual conference, June 20-24 in Louisville, Ky.
The program, developed with
input from the Sheet Metal and Air-Conditioning Contractors’ National
Association, the National Environmental Balancing Bureau and others, helps
building owners and developers find
people capable of assuring that systems are installed and running properly,
ASHRAE officials say.
“As the standard setter for
sustainable building performance, ASHRAE’s certification program recognizes
that people who manage the commissioning process need to have people- and
project-management skills in addition to a level of understanding of building
design, construction, operations and maintenance,” said society President Bill
