GAMA and ARI members are having to learn a new acronym: AHRI. The two groups have merged.

The Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association voted 131-7 Dec. 14 to join with the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute and create the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute.

ARI members approved the merger 117-7 three days later. It took effect Jan. 1.
The 370-member group, which will represent makers of appliances, water heaters, commercial food service, refrigeration and HVAC equipment, is based in Arlington, Va.

The board of directors named C. David Myers, vice president of Johnson Controls, as chairman.

“The merger will create a more efficient and influential organization to serve the needs of cooling, heating, and commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers and their customers,” Myers said. “The interests of the memberships of the two associations are so closely aligned that we expect a seamless integration.”
