A.O. Smith Water Products Co. and New York state contractor Tom Maniuszko were recognized with awards during the Quality Service Contractors' Power Meeting.

The meeting, Feb. 23-25 in St. Pete Beach, Fla., also presented the Founders' Award to QSC Executive Director Charlie Wallace.

A.O. Smith was named 2005 Industry Partner of the Year by the organization. According to QSC, A.O. Smith was honored for its educational and civic involvement activities.

During the fall of 2005, the company and its employees made $160,260 in donations to the International Red Cross' hurricane relief efforts.

The company also donated materials to Habitat for Humanity projects around the country, and awarded 10 $2,000 scholarships to encourage education. Through its foundation, QSC has donated more than $26 million since 1955 to community causes, the group said. Most recently, over $1 million was donated to more than 250 organizations, institutions and programs in 20 states.

Maniuszko of Day-Night Plumbing & Heating Co. in Richmond Hill, N.Y., was selected as Contractor of the Year. He has been involved in the plumbing, heating and cooling industry for more than 40 years and has been active with the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association since the early 1980s.

In addition to running a business, Maniuszko finds time to support many charities, one of which is the Lauri Strauss Leukemia Foundation. He has personally worked with many friends and employees in the need of cancer treatment and guidance. With his assistance, many patients have obtained early and sometimes immediate appointments, according to QSC.

The Founders' Award is a new recognition from QSC and given to a founding member of the organization. Wallace, this year's recipient, was praised by QSC Chairwoman Patty Frank for his leadership and commitment to the organization. QSC also made a donation to Challege Air for Kids and Friends in Wallace's honor.
