ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The Association of Women in the Metal Industries reached its 2006 membership goal in June.

The 1,017th member to join the group was Sherl Jakobsson of the Los Angeles Chapter.

The AWMI is a professional society promoting women in the industry. It was founded in 1981 in California to foster growth of women in the metal industries.

Association officials said they believe that the successful membership drive can be attributed to the educational and mentoring programs provided by the group.
