The award, established in memory of Snips magazine founder Ed Carter, was presented Oct. 27 during the association's 61st annual convention.
Gawne is chief executive officer at Stromberg Metal Works Inc. in Beltsville, Md.
"For many years, Bob has been a behind-the-scenes player, providing national SMACNA with invaluable practical assistance encompassing the technical, safety, legislative and business spectrums," SMACNA President Mark Watson said. "His service to SMACNA dates back to the mid-70s, where he contributed to rewriting SMACNA's Low Pressure Duct Construction Standards manual."
A 1950 Notre Dame University graduate, Gawne served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950-53. He is a onetime president of the National Environmental Balancing Bureau and the Testing, Adjusting, Balancing Council Steering Committee. He also serves on the Sheet Metal Workers union Local 100 apprentice committee and board of trustees.
